5 Types of Water Testing Equipment

There are some water testing equipment available to help you with various water testing needs. Here are five of them.

Bacterial or Coliform Test Kits

The plating or culture techniques can be used for bacterial or coliform counts and assays in the water. However, those methods will take a lot of time until you can get the result. Bacterial counts and assays can be much more convenient by using bacterial test kits as one of water testing equipment since it can be much faster to get the result.

Colorimeters

The next equipment to test the water is called colorimeters. It has the main function to measure the light that can be absorbed by the water sample. However, the test can be done after it is added with a reagent that makes its color change as a reaction.

The compound concentration in the water will affect the intensity of the absorbed light. That is why this equipment is great for indicating various compounds concentration in the water sample accurately.

For making the analysis easier, specific test kits are also used when using colorimeters. Operators might make mistakes when measuring reagents or reading color changes. The combination of kits will help to reduce those kinds of operator errors, after all.

Electrochemical Meters

Electrochemical meters is also a type of water testing equipment that you can find. It is used for measuring various aspects of the water sample, including pH and ORP. This equipment is also needed for measuring total dissolved solids (TDS), salinity, or conductivity. You can also find this equipment used for measuring biological oxygen demand (BOD) and or dissolve oxygen (DO). For water treatment application, chlorine meter is also used to measure good water quality.

Turbidimeters

You can also find equipment called turbidimeters or turbidity meters. Various kinds of suspended, colloidal matter, including microscopic organisms such as plankton, finely divided inorganic and organic matter, silt, and clay can cause turbidity in the water. You need to use this equipment properly to measure turbidity to prevent error. In this circumstance, you have to test the water sample as soon as possible after it is collected. It is necessary to make sure that the sample still has its original conditions. This water testing equipment must be used correctly if you want to get the most accurate measurement of the turbidity in the water sample.

Online water analyzer

Last but not least, these water measurements can also be done using online sensor or online analyzer. Online sensor gives continuous real time reading to allow fast automatic control of water treatment process. Online analyzer often involves the use of titration or chemical reactions so it provides automated measurement of water quality but in sample cycle mode
