6 March 2025 – Food and processed food industry (dry or liquid) is required to ensure physical foreign contaminants are not found in the final products. Ferrous metal contamination may occur during transportation of material or during food processing, grinding, crushing, general abrasion, or due to human error. Magnetic separator such as magnet trap can help to reduce such physical contamination and forms part of the Factory’s Risk Management Program. Using magnet trap can also form part of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) requirement and certification in the food or processed food industry. Often its installation is not necessarily after food processing but also when the raw food materials are first handled such as for grain, starch, sugar, chocolate, milk powder, meat or others. We share a case study of using magnet trap for food safety in Indonesia.
